Unstoppable Derek Rabelo surfs into Manly for Nutri-Grain

Feb 11, 2015

Today, Brazilian surfing legend Derek Rabelo will take to the water at Manly Beach, making his first-ever appearance at the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing.

Derek, who is in town to launch Nutri-Grain’s #LiveUnstoppable campaign, was born blind and  inspired legions of pro surfers when he surfed Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu. Today, Nutri-Grain is bringing his amazing story to Australian fans to help inspire them to live an unstoppable life when he jumps on his board at Manly beach. Joining him will be a group of talented young Australian surfers, including Ellie Jean Coffey, Jackson Coffey, Holly Coffey and Alex Hayes.

Derek’s strength, courage and determination is evident from his life story so far, but a new national study conducted by Reachout.com and Nutri-Grain found many teenagers do not share similar values of drive and conviction. In fact, the findings showed over half (58 percent) of Australian teenagers may give up before achieving their goals, and only 45 percent of them feel optimistic about their future.

Jeci David, senior brand manager for Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain says, “With the launch of #LiveUnstoppable, Nutri-Grain hopes to inspire teens by telling stories about those who haven’t let anything stop them from achieving their goals.”

“Sharing Derek’s incredible story with teens is just the first step in our journey. We hope to encourage Aussie teens to embrace their individuality and approach their goals with an unstoppable mindset, even in the face of adversity – just like Derek Rabelo,” he added.

As the official breakfast cereal of the Australian Open of Surfing, Nutri-Grain will host a pop-up cinema on Manly Beach from 12 – 15 February 2015.

The Nutri-Grain cinema will screen Derek’s feature film ‘Beyond Sight’ twice a day and will also be a place for teens to kick back, relax and be inspired – in between watching their favourite surfers take to the water.

Along with the film Beyond Sight, the cinema will also debut Nutri-Grain’s new documentary on Derek’s incredible story, which spans his exploits in surfing and more recently, his foray into high-speed downhill skateboarding.
