Lights out for Australia's first glow-in-the-dark skatepark

Sep 7, 2013

Teens from across the country have won tickets to be the lucky few who attend Australia’s first glow-in-the-dark skatepark, which hits Sydney this Saturday 7 September.

The park boasts a custom-built 8-metre wide half-pipe, rigged with infra-red sensors and glow-in-the-dark illumination, which will be the epic centrepiece of the energy-filled festival-style event.

Add to that, demos and workshops from legendary pro skater

Renton Millar, sets from DJ Alison Wonderland, running commentary from Channel [V]’s, Danny Clayton and guest appearances from the Nutri-Grain Ironmen and you’ve definitely got an event that’s worthy of a Facey update.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

SKATE

A unique glow-in-the-dark skating experience will be brought to life using a specially formulated movement and light tracking system, where dynamic graphic effects are generated in real-time and appear to follow each skater as they pull moves on the half pipe. Ranging from splashing paint, through to neon lights and bolts of electricity, these effects are high energy, with a high visual impact.

CREATE

By using a physical spray can, teens can interact with the digital graffiti wall as if they were creating their very own street art design. The state-of-the-art infra-red spray can allow teens to direct and control the flow of virtual paint, with all designs created by each teen being captured and posted to their Facebook profiles in real-time.

LEAP

Teens can hit the purpose-built Parkour course and learn the technique of this weird and wacky free-running sport from members of the Australian Institute of Parkour, as they climb, leap, vault and defy gravity.

SHARE

The teens will be provided with a miniature skateboard, which contains advanced RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology that will track activity on the day and upload in real time to social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
